Samantha King Trio
Originally from Bruce, Alberta, Samantha has put her roots down in Edmonton, Alberta. She has a passion for singing and listening to all genres of music, a passion she has indulged since childhood.
Her first public appearance was on the steps of the Alberta Legislative Building at the age of two. When she was nine she wrote her first jingle for her brother, Jesse. As a young teen, Samantha's second home became the stage, where she sang all the classic country hits while she performed in front of her family, at school, and at the local restaurant.
Her first official stage performance was at the Canadian Finals Rodeo "Country Vocal Spotlight" National competition, where she won the coveted title. She was 13. The rush she felt from the music and the reactions of the audience told her that entertaining others was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.
Samantha's commitment to doing everything it takes to promote her music and to write songs is coupled with her extraordinary talent and drive.
Edmonton jazz saxophonist Dino Dominelli brings his trio to Festival Place for the first time. Younger brother of Edmonton's premiere jazz drummer Sandro, Dino has studied with Edmonton saxophonist P.J. Perry.
In 1995, he moved to Toronto to study the principles of John Coltrane's music at Humber College with Pat La Barbera. In recent years Dino traveled throughout Asia, where he studied Asian culture and music.
While in Hong Kong, he had the opportunity to study the Asian wood flute with notable masters such as Xao Bioa, as well as to record with vocalist Luna, and, in Taipei, with vocalist Jessica Shu.
Dino Dominelli holds a Jazz Performance diploma from Canada's Humber College Jazz program and is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Music through the Open University of British Columbia.
